The Asian American Artists Collective (AAAC) in conjunction with the Foundation
for Asian American Independent Media (FAAIM) hosts the third annual ‘Chop’
Showcase at the
Abbey Pub on September 3, 2004 at 9pm. Asian American jazz musician Jeff
Chan will headline the showcase along with Sanowan (aka Jenny Choi), Chiyoko
Yoshida, Jenny Liu, and XYZR_KX and Jienan in effort to raise funds to
support Asian American Artist community-based
events and artistic expression.
Slicing away at stereotypes and fostering artistic expression through
music and heritage, "Chop3" focuses on artists who disrupt the
stereotype of the "silent model minority" while supporting independent
media created by artists of Asian heritage. The benefit will fund events
such as the Asian American Showcase that highlighted breakthrough independent
films such as Justin Lin’s “Better Luck Tomorrow” and
Eric Byler's critically acclaimed "Charlotte Sometimes.”
AAAC works to confront, subvert and disrupt stereotypes, discrimination,
prejudice, and oppression from the outside and inside of our communities.
FAAIM’s mission is to promote film, video, and other media by and
about Asian Americans, and to support the
artists who create them.
