The Asian American Artists Collective-Chicago is committed to creating intersections
between art, audience, and activism. We are a collaborative network of diverse
Asian American voices dedicated to artistic development, support and empowerment.
Through the arts, The Collective works to confront, subvert and disrupt stereotypes,
discrimination, prejudice and oppression from outside and inside of our communities.

Come join the Asian American Artists Collective for our annual evening of critical
and conscious expression through art, poetry, video, music, and performances.
This multimedia extravaganza is our 2nd annual showcase of premiere works by
Asian American artists in the chicagoland area.

On the chopping block:
The PACIFICS, Inagruv, Pintig, Mango Tribe, YAWP! (Young Asians with Power),
members of 2 Tongues, Kitchen Poems, visual artwork by Project A,
sound experimentation by (V)ESL, SAPAC plus guest performance by Bao Phi and much more!

BIOS OF Performers:
The PACIFICS are uncut "go ill" hip hop designed to serve the soul and snap the neck.
KP the Ilustrado, mr. REXford (aka. strike3) and DJ Norman Rockwell craft beats and rhymes
that speak the language of their present and stand on history's shoulders to reach towards the future.

Inagruv is an evolving funk hip hop band, featuring vocals by Rabab Moolji.

YAWP!—Young Asians With Power—is a new youth program formed in the summer of 2002 to
address the need for a socially conscious, multi-disciplinary, youth informed arts program for
APIA teens in the Chicagoland area.

PINTIG, meaning pulse in Pilipino, is a Filipino theater group.

Kitchen Poems is a writers’ workshop established in 1997 as a weekly gathering of local APIA
writers in all genres and disciplines

Project A brings together APIA visual and sound artists to organize exhibitions and facilitate
regular group critiques and "slide slams",.

Mango Tribe is The Collective’s all-women multi-city, interdisciplinary performance ensemble

Bao Phi will be our special guest feature. He is currently November's poetry hunk, and will play
the part of Bill-Dough Baggin' in "Lord of the Bling: A Hip Hop Tolkien Musical."

(V)ESL is an Asian American audio group dedicated to reconstructing the definition of music,
utilizing a wide variety of melodic, harmonic and rhythmic concepts.

The South Asian Progressive Action Collective (SAPAC) is a Chicago based collective that developed out of a common desire for a progressive forum to take up issues pertinent to South Asia and the diaspora through direct action, creative expression, and discussion.
